Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins struggled defensively and offensively in a lopsided 12-2 defeat to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium.
The Twins allowed 17 hits in the blowout loss, managing just two runs despite a two-run home run from Ryan Fitzgerald that provided a brief bright spot in an otherwise difficult evening.
Starting pitcher Zebby Matthews took the loss, his fifth of the season, after surrendering five runs on seven hits over 4⅔ innings of work. The Angels capitalized on Minnesota’s defensive lapses throughout the game.
The loss drops the Twins to 64-81 on the season. Minnesota will look to salvage some momentum in the remaining games. The Twins will attempt to bounce back today when they send Taj Bradley to the mound for the series finale against the Angels. First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon as Minnesota seeks to avoid a series sweep in Southern California.
