Rollag, MN – A missing Pelican Rapids man has been found dead near Rollag.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says that 66-year-old Richard Evenson and his red Jeep were found in rural Clay County Tuesday afternoon (September 2nd).
At around 10:15 on Tuesday morning, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office requested the public’s help in finding Evenson, who was last seen in Rollag on Monday. Clay County and Ottertail County deputies, as well as the family, began searching the area between Evenson’s home and Rollag to try and locate him.
At around 12:30 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was informed of a vehicle in a slough off of 280th Street South, southeast of Rollag. Valley Water Rescue was contacted to respond to the scene to assist with the removal of the vehicle. Once the vehicle was removed, it was found to be the red Jeep Wrangler that deputies and family were searching for. Evenson’s body, as well as his dog’s, were found in the vehicle.
Evenson was transported to the Rasmey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and the dog was transported back to Evenson’s residence at the request of family.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and is not releasing more information, but the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says foul play is not suspected.
