The Detroit Lakes Lakers gymnastics team has once again ascended to the pinnacle of Class 1A gymnastics, securing their sixth state championship and first since 2019. The Lakers achieved a team score of 145.625 at the MSHSL state meet held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. They edged out Monticello, which scored 144.775, and Breck School, which finished with 144.0.
The journey to this championship was marked by resilience and determination. After a challenging performance on the balance beam, where they posted their lowest event score of 35.25, the Lakers rallied with impressive performances in the floor exercise (36.375), vault (37.575), and uneven bars (36.425). Junior Maggie Schander played a pivotal role, particularly on the uneven bars, contributing a score of 9.475 that helped clinch the title.
