A former Minnesota Vikings player is making headlines off the field. Chris Kluwe, who punted for the Vikings for eight seasons, was arrested during a Huntington Beach, California city council meeting over a controversial library plaque.
The plaque celebrates the 50th anniversary of the city’s Central Library, but critics—including Kluwe—say it has a hidden political message. The wording spells out “MAGA,” and the fine print includes “Making America Great Again.”
Tensions ran high at the meeting, and Kluwe was taken into custody after he stepped toward councilmembers in protest, calling it “peaceful civil disobedience.”
The city is moving forward with the plaque, which is privately funded and will cost around $7,000. Meanwhile, Kluwe, known for his activism, is scheduled to appear in court in April.
