Public Comments Sought for Fisheries Rule Changes
The DNR is seeking public input on proposed fisheries rule updates that could go into effect in March 2026.
• Proposed changes include increasing the maximum distance between hooks from 9 to 18 inches and allowing certain automatic hook-setting devices for ice fishing.
• The new rules aim to reduce hook-related injuries to fish and allow anglers to use more commercially available tackle.
• Comments can be submitted through March 20 via email to bethany.bethke@state.mn.us.
