No charges are being filed after a man shot another man who mistakenly entered his home while drunk.

Mark Danford, 67, was in his residence in Breckenridge when he heard noises at his front door around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 28, according to a release from the Breckenridge Police Department.

25-year-old Michael Mccall, also a Breckenridge resident, was intoxicated and attempting to open Danford’s door with the keys to Mccall’s home.

In response, Danford grabbed his 9mm pistol and unlocked the deadbolt on his front door. Mccall walked in when the door opened and, fearing for his safety, Danford fired three rounds, striking Mccall twice, the release said.

Mccall was transported via ambulance to a nearby emergency room before being airlifted to a Fargo hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He is currently recovering from those injures, the release said.

The incident was reviewed by the Wilkin County Attorney’s Office, who decided not to file charges against either Mccall or Danford.
