Update on Detroit Lakes Missionary Incident

Nov 11, 2024 | 6:29 AM

In late October, Detroit Lakes resident and missionary Beau Shroyer was tragically killed in Angola, Africa. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of his wife, Jackie Shroyer, in connection with his death. Recent reports suggest that Jackie may have been involved in a murder-for-hire plot, allegedly due to an extramarital affair with a security guard employed at their residence. Angolan authorities have arrested two additional suspects linked to this case, with one more individual still at large.

The Shroyer family, including their five children, had moved to Angola in 2021 to engage in missionary work through SIM USA. Before their departure, Beau served as a police officer and real estate agent in Detroit Lakes. The Lakes Area Vineyard Church, where the Shroyers were active members, has expressed profound grief over these developments and is collaborating with SIM USA to ensure the well-being of the children during this challenging time.

This incident has deeply affected the Detroit Lakes community, prompting discussions about the complexities and risks associated with missionary work abroad. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to uncover all aspects of this case.
