Governor Tim Walz announced the appointment of Dylan Ferguson as the first Director of the newly established Office of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Minnesota, starting January 1st. This move marks a significant step in Minnesota’s efforts to enhance emergency medical response services statewide.
Ferguson brings over two decades of experience in EMS, currently serving as Executive Director of the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board since 2022 and previously as the Director of the Bureau of EMS in Pennsylvania. With an M.A. in emergency and disaster management, Ferguson is well-equipped to lead this office.
Governor Walz emphasized that the office will work to ensure EMS providers across Minnesota have the necessary tools and support to serve all communities, especially as the industry faces growing shortages in personnel and resources. The Office of EMS will be responsible for overseeing licensed ambulance services, EMS education programs, and the continued improvement of emergency response infrastructure.
For Ferguson, the new role represents an opportunity to address critical needs in EMS and to strengthen support for emergency responders, essential to public safety across the state.
