Frazee Recieves Federal Grant for City Energy Technologies

Oct 16, 2024 | 6:44 AM

Frazee is making big strides in clean energy thanks to a newly announced federal grant. U.S. Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar revealed that Frazee is one of the recipients in a round of funding aimed at helping rural communities adopt renewable energy technologies. Frazee will receive $148,693 to purchase and install an energy-efficient grain dryer. This upgrade is expected to save local farms $37,193 per year in energy costs and generate enough electricity to power 62 homes annually.

This funding is part of the broader Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which is investing $1.3 million across 10 farms and small businesses in Minnesota this year. The program focuses on rural and agricultural producers and has already helped Minnesota complete over 170 clean energy projects in 2024 alone. The investment will help Frazee and other rural areas cut costs while reducing harmful emissions, making this a significant win for the local community.

Senator Smith emphasized that programs like REAP are crucial to ensuring rural areas benefit from the transition to cleaner, cheaper energy. Senator Klobuchar added that this is a big step in providing sustainable energy solutions to power Minnesota’s rural communities for years to come.
