Public Comment only Accepted until Thursday for the 10 Year Drinking Water Action Plan

Minnesotans have until Thursday (October 17, 2024), to submit feedback on the state’s proposed 10-year Drinking Water Action Plan. The draft plan, which was released by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) on October 7, outlines key challenges related to drinking water safety. These include limited protections for private well users, a shrinking workforce in the water industry, and emerging threats from contaminants, pathogens, and climate change.

MDH is encouraging residents to review the plan and provide feedback via an online form available on their website. Legislators, such as Senators Judy Seeberger and Tou Xiong, have highlighted the importance of public input, especially regarding the state’s ongoing efforts to manage PFAS contamination, commonly known as “forever chemicals.” Both senators emphasized the need for continued action to ensure the safety and accessibility of drinking water in Minnesota.

The public comment period closes this Thursday, and feedback is vital in shaping the future of the state’s water safety efforts.
