Curious Calls on DL Police Caller Log & Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Blotter

We don’t often bring you stories from the call log and sheriff’s blotter because they do not include the conclusion of the situation or the whole context.  However, every once and a while we will feature a few incidents.  Rarely does the public have the opportunity to take a peak into the daily work of law enforcement.  Here are a few calls that came into the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Dispatch and have been pulled from their blotter on October 9th.

 

Caller requested a deputy to drive by his residence because he believed he heard a bear on the south side of the road and was in fear for his dogs.  Deputies checked the area but did not locate the bear.  Caller was reminded to not put anything a bear might see as food outdoors.

 

Dispatch received a call from Big Chief Truck Stop for a mother and son loitering in their parking lot.  Deputies took the pair to a rest stop and helped them get back on the road to Florida.

 

A male waving a directional strobing wand attempted to wave down the caller and needed assistance.  Deputies found the male’s car to have been disabled by a raccoon.

 

A caller noticed a blue tarp in a ditch that looked like something was inside of it.  The tarp was located, but nothing inside.

 

A male in a black hat and sunglasses entered the Vergas Municipal Liquor Store and when his card was declined to purchase a bottle of vodka he put a bottle of rum on his body and walked out.  The liquor store employee called back to say the male returned to the store and paid for items after he saw himself on social media posts.

Another scam was reported by a 31-year-old DL man who said he had been defrauded of $60,000 via a cryptocurrency scam.

 

A caller along Evans Road in Frazee requested extra patrol after noticing someone was living in their deer stand.  The caller found blankets, cigarette butts, and drug paraphernalia inside the stand.

 

A DL caller reported fraud when they attempted to purchase a shed on Facebook Marketplace for $10,000.  The caller was able to get his money back.

 

On October 12th a 9-year-old child in Ponsford took a vehicle.  The child and vehicle were found, and the child was unharmed and the vehicle was not damaged.  The child stated they wanted to go for a ride.
