Changes in Gambling Rules Cause Concern for Local Pull Tab Charities

Recent changes to gambling rules on the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe reservation are causing concern for local charities. Nonprofits that rely on pull-tab revenue, like youth hockey and fire departments, may lose tens of thousands of dollars. Under the new system, bars on the reservation can offer gambling, but now keep a larger share of the proceeds—up to 35%. The band receives at least 60%, leaving nothing for the charities that previously benefited from the pull-tab operations.
