This week, Rock Ridge High School in Virginia, MN, welcomed the Minnesota Supreme Court as part of their Traveling Oral Arguments Program, which aims to educate students on the judicial process. The justices heard a case involving geofencing cell phone data and engaged students in a lively Q&A session. Justice Sarah Hennesy’s response to a challenging question, comparing it to being interviewed by the governor, added a humorous touch to the event.
Since 1995, this program has traveled to two schools annually to build public trust in the judiciary. This fall marked the 55th visit, which included a community dinner with performances by the Rock Ridge orchestra and Night Sky Drum, bringing together local culture and the judiciary. This experience highlighted the important role these students will play in Minnesota’s future.
