Otter Tail County Reminder About Storing Your Summer Fun

By Trish Johnson Oct 4, 2024 | 8:19 AM

Here’s a reminder from the Otter Tail County Highway Department:

If you’re planning to store items like docks or lifts near the highway right-of-way, it’s important to move them for public safety. Items too close to the road pose a risk, especially during snow removal. The county has noticed several items stored in unsafe areas recently, and they are urging everyone to comply with State Statute 160.27, which prohibits unauthorized use of public highway areas.

Cristi Field, the County Highway Maintenance Supervisor, emphasized that items in these areas must meet safety standards like highway signs, which are crash-tested. To avoid damage during snow plowing and ensure the roads are safe for everyone, it’s recommended to move any items before the ground freezes.

Also, when clearing snow this winter, remember it’s illegal to push snow into the road.
