Domestic Violence Awareness Month: A Powerful Display in DL City Park

By Trish Johnson Oct 4, 2024 | 7:37 AM

From October 1-13, the DL City Park is hosting the “Break the Silence Memorial Display” to raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This moving display, organized by the Lakes Crisis & Resource Center (LCRC), features 30 life-size silhouettes, each representing a life lost to domestic violence in Minnesota over the past year. Each silhouette includes the name, photo, and a QR code that visitors can scan to learn more about the individual’s story, making a lasting and emotional impact on all who visit:

That was Stephanie Baker, the Outreach/Development & Kinship Coordinator.  She and Anna Sellin, the Executive Director of LCRC, shared a powerful story of how last year’s memorial display created real, positive change in the community, showing the true importance of raising awareness:

Alongside the memorial, LCRC also collects used cell phones, which will be sent to a non-profit to be refurbished and returned with a month of free service. These phones are provided to victims of domestic violence to ensure they have a way to seek help. Soon, you’ll see collection boxes around town.

The “Break the Silence Memorial Display” is a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight against domestic violence. If you feel moved to make a difference, visit the display and consider supporting LCRC through their website and Facebook page.
