Look What’s New at the MN DNR

Sep 10, 2024 | 5:54 AM

The DNR has confirmed zebra mussels in Toad Lake, Becker County, and starry stonewort in Rush Lake, part of the Lower Whitefish Chain of Lakes in Crow Wing County. This discovery reinforces the need for residents to continue taking precautions when using local lakes. The DNR reminds everyone to clean, drain, and dry watercraft and equipment to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

As the archery deer season approaches, the DNR is also reminding hunters to stay informed about chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing options and requirements, especially in management zones. The season opens Sept. 14, and hunters in CWD surveillance areas are required to sample deer one year or older during the opening weekend of firearms season.

Additionally, the DNR is offering $1 million in grants to support urban and community forestry projects, and upland bird hunters are encouraged to log their hunting activities for more accurate population data.

These updates are crucial for anyone participating in outdoor activities in the region. Stay tuned for more from the DNR on how these developments impact the local community. For details, visit the Minnesota DNR website.
