Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM)-
The Laker baseball team entered play on Tuesday, having won their previous four games against Mid-State Conference opponents. That winning streak was extended after handing two losses to the Staples-Motley Cardinals at Washington Park, beating the Cardinals 8-5 and 11-5. Detroit Lakes never trailed in either game and backed up their solid pitching with timely offense to improve their overall record to 8-2 and improve their conference record to 8-0.
Blaine Henderson was credited with the win in the first game as he pitched six innings while allowing five runs on seven hits giving up two walks and striking out 8 Cardinal batters. Logan Lund earned the save in relief as he struck out two batters to secure the win in game one of the doubleheader. In the first game, the Lakers were led offensively by Tanner Brend who went 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI’S.
In Game 2, Lund picked up the win while going six innings, giving up four earned runs, and striking out six batters. Andrew Kulik was a bright spot offensively for the Lakers in game two as he went 2 for 2 with two doubles, and he scored 3 of the 11 runs by Detroit Lakes.
The Lakers will put their six-game winning streak on the line on Friday when they travel to Little Falls to take part in a triangular with Little Falls and Fergus Falls.
