With summer in full swing, questions about trees, shrubs, gardens, and lawns are plentiful. To help residents, the Becker County Extension Service offers free Plant, Pest, and Gardening Clinics every Wednesday from May through September, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Extension Office. These clinics provide valuable assistance thanks to the volunteer efforts of experienced Master Gardeners.
Master Gardeners, who receive extensive training through the University of Minnesota and North Dakota State University, are on hand to answer questions, diagnose plant problems, and offer practical gardening advice. Whether it’s identifying a plant disease, determining the type of weed, or dealing with an insect pest, the Master Gardeners are there to help.
To make the most of the clinics, participants are encouraged to bring samples of the affected plants or pests. Specific guidelines include bringing a sample at least 6 inches longer than the diseased part of the plant, the entire weed plant with roots, or the insect pest in a plastic or glass jar.
The clinics are held at the Becker County Extension Office, located at 1120 8th St. SE in Detroit Lakes. For more information, you can call 218-846-7328 (Ext. 7105).
