The City of Detroit Lakes has been awarded a $749,999 grant from the Minnesota Department of Education to support essential maintenance projects at the Detroit Lakes Public Library. The grant will help address significant structural issues, including a major roof replacement and ADA compliance improvements.
During the City Council meeting on August 12th, City Administrator Kelcey Klemm shared the good news and acknowledged the efforts of Library Director Pamela Westby, who played a key role in securing the grant. The city, which owns the historic Carnegie Library, will need to match the grant funds to complete the $1.5 million project.
Key projects include replacing the aging roof, improving accessibility, and upgrading interior and exterior features. Work on the library is expected to begin in Spring 2025 and could be completed by the end of summer.
