MN Supreme Court Upholds Felon Voting Rights

Aug 8, 2024 | 8:18 AM

In a significant decision, the Minnesota Supreme Court has upheld a law restoring voting rights to felons upon their release from prison. The year-old law faced a challenge from the Minnesota Voters Alliance, but the court ruled that the alliance did not have the right to sue because taxpayer money was used to implement the law.

This ruling comes at a crucial time as early voting is already underway, and the primary election is just a week away. With this decision, an estimated 57,000 Minnesota felons are now newly eligible to vote.
