Yesterday afternoon, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a man allegedly discharging a firearm at a delivery driver in Orwell Township, west of Fergus Falls. The incident occurred around 1:49 p.m. on 911 Jenny Avenue.
Upon arrival, deputies determined that a verbal altercation had escalated between the delivery driver and 55-year-old Jeffrey Defries of Fergus Falls, leading to Defries discharging a firearm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Given the severity of the situation, the Otter Tail County SWAT team was deployed to assist in the arrest. Defries was taken into custody without further incident and has been charged with Second Degree Assault. He is currently being held at the Otter Tail County Detention Facility.
The Minnesota State Patrol provided additional support during the incident, ensuring the safety of all involved parties and assisting with the investigation.
