Detroit Lakes Man Sentenced for Drug Crime

Jul 22, 2024 | 7:20 AM

Daniel Kyrone Heard, 22, from Detroit, Michigan, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for a felony second-degree controlled substance crime. As part of a plea agreement, felony charges of first- and second-degree controlled substance crimes were dropped.

On March 5, 2023, the West Central Drug Task Force used a confidential informant to set up a controlled buy. Heard was identified as selling blue fentanyl pills for $20 each. The informant purchased 10 fentanyl pills, each marked with “M-30,” weighing just over a gram in total. The transaction took place near Holy Rosary Catholic School, leading to a search warrant for the residence.

During the search, Heard was found with over $800 in cash. Agents discovered 446 M-30 fentanyl pills in a kitchen cupboard, weighing just over 50 grams, which were confirmed as fentanyl by the Minnesota BCA. A resident confirmed Heard’s involvement in selling these pills.

Judge Michelle Lawson issued a stay of imposition, which means that successful completion of probation will result in a misdemeanor conviction for Heard. He was ordered to serve 150 days in jail, with credit for four days already served, and fined $1,000 plus $150 in court fees. Heard is prohibited from consuming alcohol or drugs, possessing firearms, and must complete a comprehensive assessment with all recommended aftercare. He will be on supervised probation for five years.
