Scam Computer Keys Showing Swindles And Frauds

ST. CLOUD (KNSI/KDLM) – Area Law Enforcement agencies are warning the public about a phone scam that is targeting seniors.

Authorities say they have heard multiple reports of a scam caller who tells the victim that a family member was involved in an accident. The caller, who identified themselves as a Litchfield attorney in at least one instance, says that the family member needs cash to stave off legal trouble. The caller requests the victim to call back once they have the money so that it can be retrieved. In cases reported so far, someone has shown up at the victim’s residence to get the cash.

Anyone who has received this scam call, knows someone who has received it or otherwise has information regarding the scheme is encouraged to contact local authorities.

Local banks should stay aware of the scam as well, as victims may withdraw large amounts of cash at the scammer’s direction — in one event, a victim lost $12,000.
