Heavy rains and saturated soils continue to restrict access to fields throughout much of Minnesota. U-S-D-A’s latest weekly crop report says there were fewer than three days suitable for fieldwork statewide, and livestock losses were reported due to flash flooding. Corn silking reached four percent, five days behind last year and two days behind the five-year average. For the first time this growing season, corn rated in good to excellent condition dipped below 60 percent. Soybeans are 32 percent blooming, equal to the usual pace, with 60 percent called good to excellent. Sugar beet condition remained at 79 percent, and the second cutting of alfalfa reached 23 percent.
