In a unanimous decision on Tuesday, Becker County Commissioners have offered the county administrator position to Carrie Smith. Smith has been serving as the human resources director and interim county administrator since the board terminated former administrator Pat Oman in February.
Smith was one of three finalists, including Tyler Treichel from Braham, MN, and Melanie Aeschliman from Blooming Prairie, MN. Aeschliman withdrew her application before the interview process.
Smith and Treichel spent Tuesday in Detroit Lakes, starting with a county tour and a meet-and-greet with staff and community members. They then participated in interviews with department heads and county commissioners.
“It was a long day,” Smith said, but she expressed enthusiasm about beginning contract discussions with the board.
