The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has approved Otter Tail Power Company’s new resource plan. This plan, settled in April, includes keeping Coyote Station running for emergency purposes only for Minnesota customers from June 2026 until 2031. Otter Tail will then shift to using 200 to 300 megawatts of solar, 150 to 200 megawatts of wind, and 20 to 75 megawatts of battery storage by 2029 to meet the Minnesota Carbon Free standard. The MPUC also backed Otter Tail’s plan to add liquefied natural gas storage at Astoria Station, enhancing reliability and price protection for Minnesota customers. Otter Tail serves Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, with further approvals pending in North Dakota. Otter Tail Power President Tim Rogelstad thanked the Minnesota Department of Commerce and labor unions for their support, appreciating the MPUC’s efforts to address customer needs.
