MinnPost – The massive $1.5 trillion Farm Bill just passed a key hurdle in the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, but it’s getting a mixed response from Minnesota’s representatives. First District Republican Congressman Brad Finstad is happy with the outcome, calling it a “strong, bipartisan Farm Bill.” He highlighted several benefits, including stronger crop insurance and dairy policies, modernized programs like the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and FSA Guaranteed and Direct loans, and faster USDA loan approval times. However, Second District Democratic Congresswoman Angie Craig has some serious concerns. She points out that the bill would undo the climate-smart agriculture policies she championed in the Inflation Reduction Act and would cut $320 million in nutrition assistance funding for Minnesota. This bill still has a long way to go before it becomes law, so expect more debates and changes along the way.
