
The Section 8AA Boys Baseball Tournament began play on Tuesday 5/28 in Dilworth, for the Hawley Nuggets and the DGF Rebels. DGF is the #2 Seed in the South and hosted the #7 Seed Nuggets. After a scoreless first inning, the Nuggets open the second inning with 2 walks, then after a strikeout, the Nuggets loaded the bases with another walk, before an RBI Sacrifice plated the first run, before Senior Aiden Eilertson hit a 2 RBI Single to Right Center to make it a 3 run inning for the Nuggets. DGF was able to get a run back in the Bottom of the second, with a ground out by Junior Catcher Wes Hoover, making it 3-1 after two. Hawley took the run back with a run in the third, with an RBI Single by Junior Carter Ambuehl. Hawley added 2 more runs in the Top of the 4th inning to give the Hawley Nuggets an eventual 6-1 victory and the right to advance to the Double Elimination portion of the Section 8AA Boys Baseball Tournament on Thursday, weather permitting vs the OTC/ Menahga winner. Cael Kosmatka went the distance for a complete game five hitter.
Meanwhile in the Section 8AA Girls Softball Tournament in Thief River Falls, DGF finished off the victory over Hawley 5-2 and beat TRF 11-0 to advance to meet Menahga on Wednesday in the Championship Semi Finals. Hawley then beat #2 Seed in the North Roseau 5-0 to keep their season alive. Hawley meets up with #1 Seed in the South Wadena-Deer Creek on Wednesday 5/29 at 2pm in TRF on KRCQ. IF Hawley wins, they play right away at about 3:30pm on KRCQ. The final, up to 3 games are scheduled for Thursday, weather permitting.
