WAHPETON, N.D. – In a case dating back to June 2023, Wahpeton resident Shawn Lane, 37, was sentenced on Friday for shooting his cousin in the chest. The incident prompted a significant police response, including a shelter-in-place order and building evacuations. Lane was found guilty of aggravated assault and shooting a firearm in the city. Despite his claims of self-defense, Lane received a four-year prison sentence and three years of supervised probation. He will receive credit for nearly a year already served.
