MAPLE GROVE, Minn. – Authorities in Maple Grove have recovered a body from a pond near 80th Avenue North and Lakeview Drive, which they believe may be connected to the search for a missing teen. The discovery was made Thursday afternoon following reports from 911 callers who observed something suspicious in the area. Hennepin County Water Patrol assisted in the recovery efforts. The body’s discovery is thought to be related to the disappearance of Winston Drepaul, 18, who was reported missing in late March. Drepaul was last seen leaving his residence on 80th Avenue early on Saturday, March 23, and was later sighted at the Maple Grove Community Center.

The pond where the body was found is a short distance from Drepaul’s home and the same location where authorities discovered a jacket belonging to him. The medical examiner will officially identify the recovered body. While police were awaiting identification as of Thursday afternoon, they have informed Drepaul’s family about the discovery. “The loss of life is difficult and tragic for any family or community,” stated police. “As the investigation progresses, further updates will be provided to the community.”
