Highway 10 in St. Cloud Undergoes Safety Upgrade with Median Cables

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud motorists are experiencing traffic disruptions on Highway 10, and they’re about to get worse. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is investing $2.8 million to install high-tension median cables aimed at reducing head-on collisions. These dividers, located between Clear Lake and St. Cloud, are designed to prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic during accidents or emergencies. The installation process involves setting up posts connected by three to four steel cables. In the event of a collision, the posts break, and the cables flex, minimizing damage to vehicles and passengers. As crews work on this safety upgrade, drivers should anticipate lane closures, shifts, and reduced speeds. This project adds to the ongoing work on the Highway 10/Highway 23 interchange, which caused traffic congestion last year and is scheduled for completion this fall.
