FORT MYERS, Fla.–Minnesota Twins minor league pitcher Travis Adams sprang into action on Monday, not on the baseball field, but by rushing to the aid of an elderly man trapped in a burning home in Fort Myers.
Adams, 24, was staying at a residence on Arlington Street for Spring Training workouts when he heard a loud noise and noticed a neighboring house engulfed in flames. He quickly alerted his housemates and ran to assist.
Despite the front door being blocked by hoarded items, Adams and his neighbors managed to access the house through the backyard. They located the 82-year-old homeowner, known as Howard, and successfully rescued him from the fire.
Fortunately, Howard escaped without injuries, but a firefighter sustained burns while extinguishing the blaze.
Adams, a right-handed pitcher drafted by the Twins in the 6th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, showcased his heroic instincts off the field, demonstrating that his skills extend beyond baseball.
