After tenants vacated a rental property at 1008 2nd Avenue North in Moorhead, safety issues have prompted the city council to consider demolition unless the owner resolves the problems by April 15. A January 2023 inspection uncovered various safety violations, including fire hazards due to electrical problems, tenants resorting to space heaters because of a faulty boiler, damaged plumbing, and the absence of carbon monoxide detectors.
Despite several notices and a suspension of the rental license from April to October 2023, most issues remain unaddressed. The city council declared the house hazardous in January 2024. In March, they voted unanimously to allow demolition at the owner’s expense if the conditions are not rectified.
