Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)-

The man shot at by a North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent Tuesday, Jan. 30, is accused of leading police on a chase through north Fargo that same day.

Tyler Merritt, 29, appeared in court Thursday, Feb. 1, for seven charges including fleeing a peace officer and possessing fentanyl. Court records show Merritt led an officer on a two-mile chase on Tuesday while hauling a stolen trailer and snowmobile. Forty-five minutes later, officers tracked Merritt to an alley behind a home near Carl Ben Eielson Middle School.

Merritt is accused of hitting several North Dakota Highway Patrol vehicles, a fence, and a garbage can while trying to escape, causing $2,000 in damage and almost hitting officers.

There is no reference in the court documents to him being shot or hurt.

His bond was set at $25,000. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is handling the investigation into the North Dakota BCI agent that fired their gun.
