Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)-

The Detroit Lakes boys’ hockey team lost to the Jamestown Bluejays 2-1 on Thursday night, at the Kent Freeman Arena. The Lakers have been winless since January 13th, but they dominated the puck possession and time on attack during the game. However, the opportunistic Blue Jays were able to score late in the game to give themselves their first lead of the game and their seventh win of the season.

During the first period, Detroit Lakes controlled the game’s pace of play, outshooting Jamestown 15-4. At the 11-minute mark, the Lakers scored the first goal of the game on a power play. Dalton Songstad scored the lone Laker goal with the assists going to Hudson Pettit and Will Cymbaluk. Laker goalie Kale Witt stopped all the shots that he faced in the opening frame.

The Lakers continued to dominate the game during much of the second period. However, Jamestown made a change in the goalie position by swapping Louis Kjellberg for Carter Borg, which unintentionally or intentionally changed the tide of the game. The Blue Jays scored with 17 seconds left in the period, with the goal scored by John Belzer on a play led by Nate Walz.

The game remained tied for much of the third period, but Jamestown was able to take the lead with 3:59 left in regulation when Tyson Jorissen scored the game-winning goal. The Lakers’ record now falls to 9-9-1 for the season.

Before and after the game, the Laker seniors were honored as part of the senior night celebration. This year’s seniors are Cole Deraney, Dalton Songstad, Tyler Ostlie, Kale Witt, Connor Nelson, and Caleb Gray.

The Lakers will have a chance to bounce back on Friday night when they host West Fargo/Sheyenne. You can catch that game on KDLM with faceoff slated for7 pm.
