United Way of Becker County Cancels ‘Day of Caring’ Event

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The United Way of Becker County has canceled this year’s Day of Caring.

The annual event, which had been scheduled for May 5, 2021 saw 2200 volunteers fanning out across Becker County to assist senior citizens with yard work, garden cleanup and window washing.

“This is a very big day for our seniors. Many of them have no one to help them with their outdoor tasks. But the health of our seniors, students and staff is foremost in our thoughts as we made this decision”, stated LuAnn Porter, Executive Director for the United Way of Becker County. “If you have a neighbor who needs help please lend them a hand. We will definitely be back next year”.

COVID-19 protocols and restrictions school districts must observe in-part forced event organizers to cancel the event for a second straight year.
