Detroit Lakes Dollars for Scholars will Award Record $275,000 in Scholarships this Year

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – More than $275,000 will be awarded to Detroit Lakes High School Seniors this year at a private Dollars for Scholars ceremony.

Winning Detroit Lakes High School seniors and their immediate families will participate in a private event where the students will receive their scholarship award for their coming college experience.

“It is a shame that we won’t be able to get together and celebrate as a broad community, but it will be nice to be able to gather with the students, especially since last year’s event was completely virtual,” explained Mark Hagen of Detroit Lakes Dollars for Scholars. “Likewise, so much progress has been made with COVID of late, so we certainly hope that by spring 2022 everyone should be able to attend the awards ceremony and life can get back to looking a lot more normal.”

This year, Detroit Lakes Dollars for Scholars will award a total of of over $275,000 to DLHS seniors – a record amount. “This past year has been tough on everyone – most particularly our high school seniors. The support of them via our community is just remarkable, and for us to be able to award a record amount of money in the year of a pandemic is astonishing. We’re incredibly fortunate to live in a very special place; a place where our DHLS scholarship winners should be proud to always call ‘home’.”
