Grand Forks, N.D. (KFGO) – Grand Forks police say no officers or hospital staff were hurt after an incident at Altru Hospital early Saturday morning.
The incident started around 1:15 a.m. when emergency dispatchers received 911 hang-up calls that were traced to a residence in the north part of the city.
Officers found a man under the influence of drugs and with a knife tied to his arm asking for help.
The officers took two knives from the man and brought him to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
About two hours later, officers were called back to Altru after the man was found with another knife, making self-harm statements, and acting erratically.
The officers were able to talk the man into dropping the knife. As they were getting the knife out of the room, the man lunged for it and grabbed it again.
The officers deployed two less-than-lethal rounds and a taser on the man. He suffered minor injuries, but is in stable condition and receiving psychiatric treatment.
Police said the man isn’t expected to face any criminal charges.
