Rural Ponsford woman charged with felony drug possession

Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – A rural Ponsford woman was charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance in Becker County District Court stemming from a traffic stop and search of her vehicle.

According to court records, on Sept. 12, 51-year-old Brenda Lee Basswood of rural Ponsford was pulled over by a White Earth Tribal police officer who knew Basswood’s license was cancelled.

After talking with investigators, Basswood admitted to selling drugs and her vehicle was searched.

During the search, police seized more than $4,000 in cash, nearly 7 grams of methamphetamine, nearly 3 grams of fentanyl and 150 counterfeit Percocet pills that contained fentanyl. Officers also found 3.7 grams of an unknown substance they believed to be fentanyl.

Basswood’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 8.
