Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – An abbreviated week is in store for the Lakers as they close out the regular season on Wednesday night, hosting East Grand Forks. After shutting out the Little Falls Flyers last week, the Lakers will look to end the regular season on a high note.

Last week, DL dominated their section opponents, the Flyers, 35-0. The defense delivered not only a shutout but some impressive hits as well.

The Lakers were led in tackles by Charlie Zok, Cody Bartnes, and Andy Bartnes; each defender finished the game with four tackles. Little Falls used the air attack to try and beat the Lakers, but DL used their linemen and linebackers to bring pressure to keep the Flyer offense from being comfortable.

DL’s Mason Carrier had a bone-crushing sack in the first half, setting the tone on defense. Will Martin had an interception for the Lakers, and in the late-going, Tyler Bye also picked off the Flyers. Martin blocked a punt on special teams for the Lakers to give his team an excellent starting field position.

Offensively, the Lakers finished the game with 448 yards of total offense.

The Lakers ran for 350 yards, with Mason Carrier leading the way for the Lakers, finishing with 160 yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns. Quarterback Caden Strand also bounced back offensively for the Lakers, completing 7 of 11 passes for 88 yards.

Nick Buboltz led the team in receiving, finishing with 24 yards on two catches. Strand also had a rushing touchdown in the ball game as he scored from 93 yards out. Easton Wahl was third on the team in rushing, with 12 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown.

East Grand Forks will be hungry for a win on Wednesday as they have lost their last two games. Losing to Morris Area 15-14 and last week to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 28-8.

Kickoff on Wednesday night will be at 7:00 p.m. The Laker Booster Club will have a tailgate party before kickoff, and they invite all to have food from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. They will serve brats, chips, dessert, and water for $5.

KDLM will broadcast Wednesday night’s game with our pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. from Mollberg Field.
