Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The Hawley Nuggets hosted the Pelican Rapids Vikings on a dreary Friday night in the Nuggets Homecoming game.
The Nuggets received the opening kickoff and traded offensive drives with the Vikings until the first play of the 2nd quarter, when the Vikings plunged in from 1 yard out to take a 6-0 lead.
The Vikings also scored a second time in the first half and finished it off with a 2pt conversion, to take a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Nuggets then held the Vikings to a three and out on the first drive, before scoring on a 16yd pass from Noah Nelson to Zach Libak TD and then a Brock Hines extra point, makes it 14-7.
The Nuggets got their second fumble recovery and hen scored only 1:02 after their first TD. This time Noah Nelson hit Zach Libak on a 59yd TD score, but the extra point was blocked by Pelican Rapids, thus the Vikings held a 14-13 lead with over 18 minutes left in the game.
Unfortunately the Nuggets could not get another score and the Vikings move to 5-1 with a 14-13 victory.
The Homecoming King and Queen coronation took place at halftime. Issac Huseman was named the Homecoming King and Leah Tibbetts was named the Homecoming Queen.
Hawley falls to 2-4 and will travel to Warroad on Friday 10/13 at 6pm on KRCQ. QB Noah Nelson was the Muscatell Burns Ford MVP of the game.
