Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – Mother nature lit up the night sky last Friday night in Morris that culminated in an abbreviated football game between Morris and Detroit Lakes.

The Lakers also put together a light show on the scoreboard, scoring an impressive six touchdowns in their inaugural football meeting with Morris. The game was called off after 36 minutes due to lightning in the distance, with the Lakers leading 41-6 at the end of the third quarter.

Mason Carrier was the star of the game for the Lakers, scoring four of their six touchdowns and rushing for an impressive 249 yards on 19 carries.

Caden Strand and Cody Bartnes also contributed to the Lakers’ scoring with a touchdown apiece.

The Lakers had two takeaways on defense, with Cody Bartnes intercepting a pass thrown by Drew Huebner on the Tigers’ first drive of the game.

Nick Buboltz also had an INT and on special teams converted on all but one point after attempts.

Despite the Tigers’ efforts, the Lakers dominated the game, finishing with 415 yards of total offense.

They held the Tigers to less than 100 yards through the air and on the ground. Defensively, the Lakers’ leading tackler was Cody Bartnes, who had an INT and finished the game with seven tackles, including one tackle for loss.

The Lakers now face the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels, who are also known for their solid rushing attack and tough defense. The Lakers have held opponents to just 598 yards rushing through the first five weeks of the season.

Offensively, the Lakers have relied on their ground attack, with an average of 305.8 yards rushing and a total of 1,529 yards.

The Rebels have an overall record of 4-1, with their only loss being to Barnesville in the first game of the season.

Last week, they beat Little Falls 21-0. The Lakers’ undefeated record will be put to the test this week against the extremely talented Rebels.
