Greater Need in Lakes Area for Women’s Treatment Center than many Realize

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Recovery Community Resources, a nonprofit based in Detroit Lakes believes there is a greater need than most people know for their new women’s treatment center

The organization is in negotiations to purchase and renovate the former minimum security jail building on Randolph Road in Detroit Lakes and plan to offer all-inclusive and comprehensive programming for recovery.

“We’ll be focusing on treatment of substance use and mental health issues for women because that service is sorely lacking in Northwest Minnesota. Women in this area would have to travel to the Cities to find treatment that is offered to females only,” Shelly Petrik, Executive Director and CEO of Recovery Community Resources said.

The treatment center will serve a 5 county geographic area including women from the Canadien border all the way down to Alexandria or St. Cloud. Organizers say they already have a waitlist for patients hoping to seek treatment at the center once it’s open. Some women will come and stay at the center to receive care, but the organization also plans to serve women on an outpatient basis after they’ve received residential care.

Before the center can open, Recovery Community Resources would like to secure donations to help with the first 4 months of operations as well as the start-up costs. Donations, including corporate donations can be made at RecoveryCR.org
