Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – An Alabama man was charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors stemming from a “shots fired” incident in Frazee last week.

According to court records, on Sept. 6 at 11:30 p.m., nearby residents reported a black Dodge Charger was going up and down Lake Street and culminated with shots being fired from the vehicle.

Police responded to the scene and 22-year-old Jamichael Boykin of Arlington, Ala., was identified as the suspect.

Officers found seven 9mm shell casings at the scene and witnesses said Boykin pointed the handgun at them while driving by in his vehicle and then fired the shots out of the sunroof and into the air.

A black Charger with Alabama plates was then spotted by a Perham police officer in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel in Perham.

Boykin and another man surrendered to law enforcement after a short stand-off at the motel, but both men denied being in Frazee that night, or knowing anything about a shooting.

Officers then obtained a search warrant for the motel room and Boykin’s vehicle and found a silver, 9mm handgun and a magazine loaded with 9mm rounds.

Boykin has been charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and felony reckless discharge of a firearm. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 18.
