Beswick Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam As DL Post 15 Sweeps Fergus Falls

Detroit Lakes, Minn (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Post 15 hosted Fergus Falls at Washington Ballpark on Friday night, and ended the night with a two-game sweep.

In game one, Detroit Lakes came out swinging. Jacob Thomas hit a solo home run in the first inning, giving Detroit Lakes a 1-0 lead. Post 15 added five more runs and, with a strong pitching performance by Brock Okeson, took a 6-3 lead into the final inning. Fergus Falls would add two runs, but Thomas took the mound to close out the game with a two-out save to preserve the 6-5 win. Joshua Goodspeed and Tanner Wilson each had three hits for Detroit Lakes in the first game.

In game two, Detroit Lakes took a 6-5 lead into the top of the seventh, where Fergus Falls would score three runs to take an 8-6 lead. Detroit Lakes responded, plating two runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Grady Kirchner drew a lead-off walk. Kirchner would steal second and reach third on a fielder’s choice. Fergus Falls intentionally walked Hunter Korth to set up the double play. Goodspeed also drew a walk to load the bases with one out.

Connor Beswick would step up to the plate in a high-pressure situation and responded by launching his first-career home run over the center field wall for a walk-off grand slam and a 12-8 victory. Besick was 3-3 in game two. Korth had two hits, including a home run.

Detroit Lakes Post 15 has now won five-straight games to improve their record to 9-8 heading into the holiday break. They have a triple-header in Perham on July 6th before heading to Jamestown for a two-day tournament July 8-9.
