COON RAPIDS, MINN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Girls Golf team shot a 333 on Day One of the Class AAA State Tournament at Bunker Hills Golf Club, and find themselves 13 shots out of first place.
Junior Hanna Knoop finished Day One with a +4 76 to pace the Lakes, which puts her in a tie for ninth place overall. Junior Laura Syltie shot a +10 82, sophomore Sydney Miller carded a +14 86, and seventh-grader Sophie Christianson and freshman Tatum Gatheridge each shot +17 89. Eighth-grader Jaycie Sliper ended her round with a +27 99.
Kathryn VanArragon of Blaine shot an eight-under 66 to lead the field.
The Lakers trail Maple Grove by 13 strokes for the tournament lead. The Crimson shot a combined 315 on Tuesday. Wayzata is in second place with a 320, and Minnetonka is in third with a 331.
The Lakers will begin teeing off on Day Two of the tournament at 8:11 on Wednesday morning. Sliper (8:11) will be the first Laker on the course again tomorrow, followed by Gatheridge (8:20), Christianson (8:29), Miller (8:47), Syltie (8:56), and Knoop (9:05).
