Detroit Lakes one of 19 area schools represented at 2023 State Golf Tournament

(KDLM) – The State Golf Tournaments begin on Tuesday, June 13th and the area will be well-represented at the Class A, AA, and AAA tournaments with 19 area schools being represented.

In Class AAA, the Detroit Lakes Lakers girls golf team won their first section title since 2019 and are looking for their first state title since 2018. Jaycie Sliper will be the first Laker on the course on Tuesday with an 8:11 tee time at Bunker Hills Golf Club. Sydney Miller (8:10), Laura Syltie (8:29), Sophie Christianson (8:47), Tatum Gatheridge (8:56), and Hanna Knoop (9:05) will follow.

Alexandria has three individual golfers in the state tournament in Rachel Bowen (7:46), Aisling O’Connor (8:02), and section champion Hannah Boraas (8:38).

In Boys AAA, the section 8 champion Alexandria Cardinals (Braeden Sladek, Carber Larson, Gabe Weller, Jack Holtz, Weston Nyberg, and William Thornburg) will tee off beginning at noon. Individual golfers in the Class AAA tournament include Joey Simonich (12:00) and Joe Kortan (12:16) of Moorhead, and Nick Yavarow (12:16) of Bemidji.

In Class AA at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, the Section 8 champion Park Rapids Panthers (Alexis Usher, Anna Eckmann, Emma Vrieze, Macie Manainga, Madysen Maninga, and Tori Weaver) will begin teeing off at 8:11 am. Individual girls golfers in Class AA include Addicyn Zimmerman (7:30) of Perham, Annie Mayer (7:46) and Annika Jyrkas (8:38) of Fergus Falls, Sophie Cook (8:38) of Hawley, and Mallory Uselman (8:02) of Staples-Motley.

Individual Class AA boys golfers include Brady Petznick (12:08) of Pelican Rapids,  Riley McGovern (12:32) of Fergus Falls, Jack Justesen (1:08) of Hawley, and Carter White (1:08) of Staples-Motley.

The Class A Tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker is full of local talent. Park Christian (Wynn Tomlinson, Kennedy Masseth, Anika Stromme, Kylee West and Hailey Frueh) and Fertile-Beltrami (Ella Finseth, Macy Petry, Tyra Burke, Kasia Wilson, Katelyn Aakhus) will compete for the team championship. Individual Class A qualifiers include Annika Landsverk (7:46) of Fosston, Cady Clark (7:46) of Mahnoman/Waubun, Aspen Beyer (8:02) and Paige Beyer (8:38) of Border West, Sofia Anderson (8:02) of Nevis, and Sophie Hillman (8:38) of Ottertail Central.

In Boys A, Ottertail Central (Nathan Hillman, Logan Kostelecky, Carter Dilly, Christian Carlson, Owen Buehler) will represent Section 6 and Fertile-Beltrami (Caiden Swenby, Masen Nowacki, Ethan Finseth, Hunter Doyea, Daniel Ivanov, and Derek Sorenson) will represent Section 8 in the tournament. Individual golfers in Class A include Tucker Quam (12:08) and Tony Carlin (12:32) of Fosston, Erik Bjorndahl (12:08) of Hillcrest Lutheran, Aiden Marcussen (12:16) and Ryan Engel (1:08) of Ada-Borup-West, and Nolan Wilson (12:08) of Border West.
