Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The former manager for the Frazee VFW Post 7702 is facing four felony charges including theft, theft by swindle and wrongful receipt of unemployment benefits.

According to court records, 42-year-old Anne Tonette Omundson, of Frazee, was the manager of the VFW post from 2019 to February 2022 and allegedly stole more than $70,000 from the bar and organization over a 12-month period, including $6,250 from the post’s scholarship fund.

Prosecutors said Omundson was responsible for closing the cash registers each night and making deposits to the bank, but, from March 2021 to February 2022, deposits were not made for days and sometimes weeks at a time.

One post worker told investigators that the till was short on more than one occasion and, when they brought the issue up with Omundson, she said she would cover the missing funds out of her own pocket.

She was also accused of spending more than $20,000 playing electronic pull tabs over a 10-month period, which included playing the electronic device after hours.

Court records also state that, on three separate dates in 2021, Omundson withdrew funds from the post’s scholarship account and deposited them in the VFW bar account without authorization.

She also reportedly used a straw-man stand-in with the initials J.C to cash $800 in pull-tab winnings.

Omundson missed her first court appearance on June 1 and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
