Three Area Businesses Donate $5,000 to Becker County Food Pantry

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Three area businesses have donated $5,000 to the Becker County Food Pantry.

Central Market, J&K Marine and Builders FirstSource along with Leighton Broadcasting in the past have encouraged students from across the Lakes Area to donate food items to the pantry, this year due to state COVID-19 restrictions the businesses encouraged area students to collect receipts from Central Market throughout the winter months.

The businesses then tallied their donation based on the number of receipts collected.

“We love being a part of this, ever since this program started we knew this was the right fit for us and it’s one of those things we look forward to every year, it’s a tremendous opportunity to give back,” Wade Fenske of Builders FirstSource said.

Classrooms that collected the most receipts received a pizza party courtesy of Godfather’s Pizza.

The donation comes at a time when the Becker County Food Pantry has been soliciting for donations. Throughout the month of March the pantry receives an incentive award based on the amount of cash and pounds of food it collects from the Greater Minneapolis Community Connections.

The pantry currently has a $10,000 goal
