Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – A Minnesota man has been federally indicted by a grand jury for stealing Judy Garland’s famed ruby slippers from the actress’s museum in Grand Rapids in August 2005.

Terry Jon Martin was charged with theft of an object of cultural heritage from the care, custody, or control of a museum on May 16, according to a news release from the U.S Attorney’s Office in North Dakota.

The slippers are one of four pairs in existence that Garland wore during filming and are worth an estimated $3.5 million.

The slippers were recovered by the FBI and Grand Rapids Police Department in July 2018, however, few details were release about the recovery.

Martin is not currently in custody, the attorney’s office said, but he is expected to make his first court appearance in Minneapolis in coming weeks.
